A Cudjoe Key woman died Wednesday night after being hit by a car while walking on South Roosevelt Boulevard near Key West International Airport and another woman has been charged in her death.
Key West police said the victim was Verna Stephanie Collins, 49, of Colson Drive. She worked for Key West dentist Claude Harris.
Police said the driver was April Dawn Thomason, 43, of Telegraph Lane. She’s charged with negligent homicide, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run, all felonies.

FARMINGTON — Darla Allred heard the word she has been waiting for since her son’s hit-and-run death more than a year ago: Guilty.
“I’m glad it’s going to be over,” said Allred, her voice breaking with emotion.

HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) – Police arrested a Harlan County man Wednesday in connection to a hit-and-run that injured an elderly woman.
Harlan Police arrested Christopher Thomas Caudill, 32, of Closplint, and charged him with assault first degree.
Caudill is accused of driving into an 81-year-old woman with a truck Saturday in the parking lot of the Harlan Walmart and speeding away without stopping to help.
Paramedics treated the woman for a minor head injury.

The two exchanged words and then Parrott allegedly pulled into a nearby church parking lot, drove onto the grass and sidewalk area and struck Shipley, Partsch said.
Parrott later turned herself in to police.

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — A 45-year-old man has been given two years of probation for the hit-and-run crash death of a pedestrian in Omaha.
Mark Fleming was sentenced Wednesday in Douglas County District Court. He’d pleaded no contest and was found guilty of misdemeanor vehicular homicide.
Police say 76-year-old Roy Yeck was hit as he was trying to cross North 30th Street shortly after 1 a.m. on Jan. 30.
Fleming turned himself in to police later that day. Fleming apologized to Yeck’s family during Wednesday’s sentencing hearing.

KILGORE (KYTX) – The mother of a 5-year-old boy killed in an Aug. 30 hit-and-run wreck now faces burglary charges.
Brittani Mereie Henry, 26, of Kilgore, was arrested Sept. 11 by Kilgore police. She was released from the Gregg County Jail that day on $75,000 bond.

The Chattanooga city employee who told police she hadn’t realized she crashed into a motorcycle despite driving away with the motorcycle’s handlebar stuck in her car door will be suspended for 15 days, according to a letter of discipline issued today by Mayor Andy Berke’s office.
Valerie Radu, the director of the city’s new Family Justice Center, will be suspended for 15 working days without pay, the letter states, and will be prohibiting from operating a city vehicle.

A 79-year-old woman remains at New York University hospital after she was struck by a driver allegedly trying to escape from police.
That driver was arrested, but now it turns out authorities believe he also murdered a cab driver just 48 hours before.
When Newark police caught 20-year-old Nathaniel Young last month, little did officials know they would prosecute him for separate crimes.
