What a horrible, horrible hit-and-run unfolded earlier Sunday morning. (Thanks to Jeanne D. for pointing this out):
NEW YORK — A young Jewish Orthodox couple en route to a hospital to have their first child was killed in a car crash early Sunday, but their child survived.
Nathan and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were using a car service to go to the hospital when another vehicle crashed into the side of theirs at an intersection in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, said a Hasidic community activist, Isaac Abraham. Nathan Glauber was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital, while his wife died at Bellevue, the police said.
The couple’s son was delivered at the scene and was taken to a hospital in serious condition, said Mr. Abraham, who is a neighbor of Raizy Glauber’s parents and lives two blocks from the site of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the couple’s car fled, the police said. No arrests have been made.
Now, the scumbag hit-and-run driver probably didn’t know the specifics of what was going on with the vehicle he/she hit-and-ran, but this speaks to an abhorrent callousness on behalf of ANYONE who flees the scene. I hope he/she gets caught and spends a hefty amount of time at Rikers and beyond. Even more than that, I hope the Glauber’s newborn has an extensive support system around him. So very tragic.

The baby boy delivered through an emergency C-section after a brutal hit-and-run killed both of his parents this weekend died overnight, Hasidic community leader Isaac Abramahm told CBS New York. Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both just 21 years old, were on their way to the hospital Saturday, when a BMW slammed into their black cab in Williamsburg, killing the husband immediately and ejecting the expectant mother. Both the driver and passenger of the BMW fled on foot and neither have been found. First responders managed to save the child, who spent the weekend at the hospital in critical condition.
