Weatherman/poonhound John Bolaris’ long-anticipated (if only locally, and if only in a sub-population at that) appearance on 20/20 aired last night.
The ABC news-magazine show packaged him into a whole narrative about “payback.” As in, Bolaris done got beaten by a couple of hot chicks with Bond-villain accents who bilked his credit card to five-figure heights, BUT HE DID NOT LAY DOWN AND TAKE IT! HE FOUGHT THE FUCK BACK!!1!
Granted, that’s essentially true.
Still, came off a bit douchey, almost as if 20/20 used him as hard as those Estonian minxes for whom he said his intentions were not sexual in the least.
Here’s why: Those court TV/daytime-talk shows, they geek the “contestants” up before they walk through those doors in the back of the room so their emotions feed in to whatever narrative the show’s trying to sell. You know, so they’ll dance when they find out they. are. not. the. father.
I got the sense that they did that with Bolaris, who was more than happy to ride the rails of the payback-storyline train. He seemed like a frog around whose head a fly was swirling, that tongue just jabbing out and sucking it in for digestive purposes. Only in J Bo’s case, his tongue was grabbing the attention he seemed to have wanted for himself, and his story, in particular order.
Plus, he somehow amended his story to make it seem as if the South Beach “b-girls” were saying “do a shot” instead of the “do shot” construct that made his story absolutely mesmerizing in the first place. (For full background, read Dave Gambacorta’s excellent “Drugged & duped: Bolaris’ perfect storm.”)
And that’s unforgivable.
Here, you can watch it for yourself:

This idiot has now changed his story four times. When the story broke, he told the Daily News and Preston and Steve that he called the two girls when he came to because his sunglasses were missing. He told 20/20 that they called him. He told 20/20 that he was not after sex. He told Playboy. “I’m a guy, I wanted to get laid.” There were at least a dozen inconsistancies. It would be funny, if this were not an active case. He just lost all credibility as a witness – as a weatherman – and a as a human being. Goodbye JBO.
