2161. Ogden, Utah. Dec. 16. 21-year-old female jogger injured when struck by a small, 1980s or 1990s red pickup truck, possibly a Toyota or Nissan, which fled the scene.
2162. Chicago. Dec. 18. 28-year-old woman hospitalized after being struck by a silver or grey sedan while she was hailing a cab; the car fled the scene. “‘A caring person would stop for a squirrel,’ said Jacquie Olender, the mother of Meghann Eff. ‘To not stop for a human being? Who would do that? I personally don’t understand that. I don’t.'” (Christmas update)
2163. San Antonio, Texas. Dec. 22. 19-year-old woman injured when struck by a red vehicle which fled the scene.
2164. San Antonio, Texas. Dec. 22. 48-year-old man suffers life-threatening injuries when struck by a 2006 or 2007 Ford F-150 pickup which fled the scene.
2165. Albany, NY. Dec. 22. 50-year-old man suffers broken hip, bleeding on the brain and other internal injuries after being struck by what might be an early ‘90s Dodge Dakota pickup truck; and fled the scene.
2166. Lynchburg, Va. Dec. 23. 65-year-old killed after being run over by a silver or light gray SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, which took off. “It’s very tough. It’s the holidays you know, Christmas is right around the corner and then something like this to happen is such a tragedy,” said Donetta Ridgeway, victim’s daughter.
2167. Phoenix. Dec. 22. Woman injured when struck by black sedan which fled the scene.
2168. Tucson, Ariz. Dec. 24. Woman suffers serious injuries when struck by a newer model, red Chevrolet, full-sized, and lifted pick-up truck, which fled the scene.
2169. Little Rock, Ark. Dec. 24. 35-year-old woman fatally struck by a silver or beige car which fled the scene.

A 26-year-old Union man was arrested last night and charged with the vehicular homicide of a Bayonne musician and father of two who died after a hit-and-run collision in Jersey City in July. Carlos M. Ortiz made his first court appearance today in connection to the July 29 crash in which Gene “Bluejean” Hughes, 47, was walking on Kennedy Boulevard when he was struck at Kennedy Boulevard and Bond Street just before midnight, officials said.

According to Sgt. Peter Callahan, the owner of the vehicle went out to start the vehicle around 4:50 to warm it up. When he came back out, the vehicle was missing – along with the family’s Christmas presents inside the truck. Callahan said the truck was later involved in a hit and run non-injury accident on Montana Avenue.
Police didn’t receive the call that it was stolen until after the accident occurred. The suspect was last seen driving away from the crash scene, heading west on Lyndale Avenue. The license plate number is 51-2242.

Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a 12-year-old southern New Jersey boy.
Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford announced today that 40-year-old Jesus Arellano of Lakewood was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision. The charge stems from a Dec. 16 accident in which Edward Juarez was struck and killed while walking to his family’s apartment in Lakewood.
Arellano, who authorities say is an illegal immigrant, was being held without bail. It wasn’t known if he had retained a lawyer.
Authorities say the arrest came after police conducted a road block near the accident scene. They soon learned a van — covered by a tarp — had been parked at a nearby home since the night the accident occurred.

Family members of a teen killed two years ago by a Terre Haute driver are stunned. Thirteen-year-old Nathan Lawson was struck and killed by a car driven by Lindsay Pinegar. Her family helped her cover up the crime.
A judge sentenced Pinegar on Thursday to 3 years of home detention and 3 years on parole. She must also complete 1,000 hours of community service. Lawson’s family were upset when the sentence was read. Pinegar could have been sentenced to 8 years in prison.

TULSA, Okla. — A woman who was in a vehicle hit by a hit-and-run driver was walking on the road when another hit-and-run driver struck and killed her, according to Tulsa police.

A neighbor discovered Rob lying on the ground next to the Explorer and called 911. He’d fallen in and out of consciousness during the night. He remembered trying to reach for his nearby cell phone, but his arms wouldn’t work. His left ankle had snapped open after being hit by the speeding vehicle, leaving a hole that paramedics mistook for a bullet wound. They rushed him to Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, the closest hospital with a trauma care unit specializing in gunshot injuries.
