Hit-and-Run America, Vol. MMXXVI

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously. 14743. At the scene, deputies said they found a pedestrian in the roadway with no signs of life. The victim was identified as 27-year-old Darrell Thomas Jones. Officials say he was walking from north to south and failed to yield the right of way to vehicles on the roadway. Investigators don’t know who struck Jones, but they found parts from the suspect vehicle at the scene.

14744. A man died in Stockton on Saturday morning after he was hit by a vehicle while walking in the area, the Stockton Police Department said.

14745. A Clinton County juvenile has died following a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning, police said. According to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, police received a report about an unresponsive 16-year-old on the westbound side of US 421 (Clay Avenue), north of State Road 26, around 2:36 a.m. Preliminary evidence from the scene suggests that the 16-year-old, later identified as Reese East of Rossville, was walking on the street when a southbound vehicle struck him. The vehicle then left the scene, CCSO said.

14747. Authorities are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that was involved in an early Sunday auto-pedestrian hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead in Arlington, police said.

14748. A Nashville community is rallying behind a local business owner as he lay unconscious in the hospital after a hit and run Wednesday. The owner of Smokin Thighs restaurant, 42-year-old Matthew Carney, was struck in the parking lot of his business on Wedgewood Avenue. His family and friends say he has a long road ahead, but they’re staying hopeful. A group of Nashville businessmen is posting a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest of the driver.

14749. A 31-year-old man was seriously hurt, and a 41-year-old woman was also injured. Both were taken to Long Island Community Hospital and are expected to survive.

14750. Talladega police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run reported early Friday morning. According to Lt. Dennis McDaniel, police were dispatched to Stephen J. White Memorial Blvd. near North Street East just before 5 a.m. Friday. When they arrived at the scene, they found a male, identified as Pierre Tremayne Whitson, 37, of Talladega, lying on the side of the road, and a bicycle lying nearby in the roadway. Whitson was pronounced dead at the scene, McDaniel said.

14751. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Orlando. The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. on June 15 on South Semoran Boulevard near Pershing Avenue. The Orlando Police Department said a white sedan struck and killed 35-year-old Charles Avery Murphy.

14752. St. Petersburg police are looking for a driver who hit and killed a woman as she tried to cross Fourth Street North on Tuesday. Kathy Repke, 63, was walking in a marked crosswalk on the 6900 block of Fourth Street North about 9:22 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle, police said in a news release. The driver left the scene without helping Repke or calling police.

14753. The Charleston Police Department (CPD) are seeking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision early Monday morning. According to the CPD, witnesses saw a woman struck by a burgundy-colored vehicle entering the parking lot of the Rutledge Cab Company restaurant on Rutledge Avenue at 1:30 am. The vehicle then fled the scene.

14754. Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a hit-and-run driver who injured a teenager riding a skateboard in the Baldwin Hills area in February.

14755. A 68-year-old woman was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries after she was found unconscious and unresponsive following a hit-and-run crash in Huber Heights Tuesday, according to police.

14756. Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Revere on Tuesday night. Police say a 11-year-old was struck by a vehicle in the BJ’s parking lot on Ward Street around 6:15 p.m. The child was transported to an area hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Officials say the driver fled the scene and there is an ongoing search for the car.

14757. Jessica Cardona says her four daughters would always wait for their father to get home from work. Friday, 36-year-old Rodolfo Elias never made it through the front door.
