I’ve written so many stories I wouldn’t venture to even put an estimated number on it. But, I’m not sure that I’ve ever had an interview like the one I did with the PSPCA’s George Bengal this week.
George was given 4-to-8 weeks to live after being diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer in February. He’s surpassed those estimates, but he knows that his time on Earth is running short. We talked about that at the PSPCA shelter on Erie Avenue this week.
It wasn’t an easy interview. Not by a long shot. But, George so much wants to have his legacy continued after he dies that he was open and frank in our discussion.
“I don’t fear dying. I don’t like the suffering that leads up to it. Literally, I could go tomorrow, and be very happy with that. But there’s a reason for that [suffering] too. God plans your life. He brings people into your life. He orchestrates every aspect.”
