More than a week of fielding tips, examining damaged vehicles and talking with auto body shop owners has failed to turn up any concrete evidence pointing toward who hit and killed an Iowa State University freshman on a busy Ames roadway as she walked to take a final exam.
Investigators have taken about 30 tips from the public since Emmalee Jacobs, a graduate of Center Point-Urbana High School, died on Dec. 14, said Ames Police Cmdr.Jason Tuttle. Her body was found in the intersection of Lincoln Way and Ash Avenue at 7:04 that rainy morning.

The incident happened in early December. Carpenter is alleged to have struck someone with his vehicle, then left the scene after stopping to ensure the crash victim was OK.
“It’s my understanding he has been interviewed,” Capt. George Drafts with the Columbia Police Department said Wednesday. “He is cooperating with the investigation at this point.”

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) – A baby boy was delivered after his pregnant mother was killed in a hit-and-run in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side Thursday night.
Karla Y. Leanos, 26, was crossing the street on foot in the 4200 block of West Ogden about 10 p.m. when she was struck by a dark-colored SUV, according to police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Leanos, of the 3000 block of South Keeler, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m.

Nine days before his burned body was found along a bike trail near Eagle’s Nest Park, Isaiah Hammonds, 18, was riding a small motorcycle northbound in the southbound lane along a residential stretch of Ivey Lane and struck a young boy, Orlando police said.
Relatives of the 10-year-old boy who was allegedly struck and injured by Hammonds said the circumstances show the ongoing danger to children in the area.
“Children were playing and the next thing you know some guy on a little motorbike came flying through and ran into him,” said Tahira Gaskin, a member of the victim’s family.

WILKES-BARRE — Accused hit-and-run drunken driver Michael Scavone did enter American Legion Post 672 in Dallas the day of the fatal crash that killed a triathlete jogging in Harveys Lake, but its employees did not serve him alcohol, according to court documents filed Monday.
In an answer to a lawsuit filed by the late jogger Paula Jones’ husband, the legion post denies responsibility for over-serving Scavone and asserts the lawsuit against it should be thrown out.
Scavone, 50, is currently jailed awaiting trial on vehicular homicide and related charges after police alleged he struck Jones, 31, as she jogged along Lakeside Drive on June 7, after a day spent drinking. More than two hours after the crash, Scavone had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.214, according to police.

“I wanted him to die,” 15-year-old Kayla Mix said when asked about her anger toward the suspect, 21-year-old Ricardo Redondo-Reyes.
“Maybe not… die, but get very hurt [so] he can feel the pain that I went through,” Mix said.
Mix was walking home from work October 26 when Redondo-Reyes hit her at the intersection of Superstition Boulevard and Ironwood Drive, according to Apache Junction Police. Instead of stopping, Redondo-Reyes then drove off, police said.
