6287. Winter Haven, Fla. Feb. 18. 52-year-old woman fatally struck by a white or gray BMW SUV which fled the scene.
6288. Centreville, Va. Feb. 19. 85-year-old woman fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
6289. Florence, Ariz. Feb. 19. Pedestrian fatally struck by a 1997 or newer Jeep TJ convertible which fled the scene.
6290. Beaumont, Texas. Feb. 20. 48-year-old man fatally struck by a black or dark-colored extended-cab pickup truck which fled the scene.
6291. Memphis, Tenn. Feb. 20. Pedestrian critically injured when struck by a red tractor trailer which fled the scene.
6292-93. Oakland, Cal. Feb. 20. One pedestrian killed another injured when struck by a sedan from which the driver ran away.
6294. Des Moines, Iowa. Feb. 21. 21-year-old man fatally struck by a vehicle which fled the scene; later impounded sans driver.
6295. Findlay, Ohio. Feb. 20. 16-year-old male injured when struck by a red four-door vehicle which fled the scene.
6296. Greenwich, NY. Feb. 19. Female pedestrian fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

MIAMI – A 21-year-old man accused of causing a crash that killed a bicyclist and injured another on the Rickenbacker Causeway last month was in court Friday as his lawyers pleaded not guilty on his behalf.
Alejandro Alvarez has been out of jail on bond since the Jan. 21 crash that killed Walter Reyes, 49, and sent Henry Hernandez, 40, to Mercy Hospital.
Hernandez sat in a wheelchair inside the courtroom during Alvarez’s arraignment.

The Aurora Police Department made a mistake when its officers allowed the city fire chief’s wife to go home with her husband after she was involved in a hit-and-run accident, a prosecutor said Friday during a court hearing.
“I think this would have been something else but for her being the fire chief’s wife,” said Chris Opfer, a deputy district attorney for the 18th Judicial District. “She got a break.”

The driver who killed a pregnant woman and her new husband in a hit-and-run crash in 2013 is facing life in prison after a jury found him guilty on Friday of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
Julio Acevedo was also found guilty of two counts of leaving the scene of a crash for smashing his Bavarian Motor Works ride into the livery cab carrying Nathan and Raizy Glauber, both 21, to a hospital. Friends and family of the young couple say that justice has been served, but that no prison sentence could be long enough to make up for Acevedo’s reckless driving, and his fleeing to Pennsylvania.
