5347. Stony Brook, NY. July 9. 25-year-old man fatally struck by a dark SUV which fled the scene.
5348. Wilmington, NC. July 10. 68-year-old man fatally struck by a red or burgundy Ford Explorer which fled the scene.
5349-50. Los Angeles, Cal. July 10. 4-year-old boy killed and 23-year-old mother injured when struck by a red 2013 Toyota which fled the scene.
5351. Austin, Texas. July 10. Man in his 50s injured when struck by a light SUV which fled the scene.
5352. Carlsbad, Cal. July 10. Bicyclist injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

The 25-year-old drove from West Virginia so he could talk to Roanoke police in the hope of finding the answer to a question that’s led him to call garages about anyone trying to get a damaged vehicle fixed.
Who is the driver who struck and killed his mother, Sandra Nadine Loughry, and then fled?
Early Saturday, a few hours after the smoke cleared from the July 4 fireworks, Loughry walked near the 3000 block of Shenandoah Avenue Northwest with a male friend. Roanoke police said that she was near the Shenandoah Restaurant when she was hit from behind at about 1:44 a.m.
The driver fled before police arrived. Loughry, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Nassau County grand jury has indicted a retired NYPD officer from Syosset in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 13-year-old girl, authorities said Thursday.
Michael Elardo, 48, pleaded not guilty to a grand jury indictment that accuses him of leaving the scene of an incident, without reporting it, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.

Diane Norris was prepared to move from Monroe to get away from bad influences so she could begin a fresh start in life.
She never got the chance. Five years ago, Ms. Norris, 41, was hit by a car and killed while she walked in the dark along N. Dixie Hwy. north of Nadeau Rd. The driver never stopped and has never been identified. The case remains unsolved. “She deserved better than to be left on the side of the road,” said her older sister, Nancy Raines of Allendale on the west side of the state. “How does a person get away with that? I just can’t rest without knowing who was responsible.”
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office believes the car was a 1999 to 2005 four-door Pontiac Grand Am. It would have had damage to the front end on the passenger side. Police said the mirror, the headlight, fender and the frame around the windshield all should have sustained some damage.
Sgt. Daniel Zdybek said the case remains open but there have been no recent leads.

Neptune Beach Assistant Police Chief Tony Carillo has confirmed that Jacksonville Beach Police have taken possession of a black Mercedes thought to have been involved in a fatal hit and run over the Fourth of July weekend.

FLINT, MI — Dora Stron, of Flint, held a candle in her hand and sobbed for the loss of her best friend, Donald Arnold, after a vigil was held in his honor near where he was killed in what police are investigating as a hit-and-run on Monday near Martin Luther King and Ruth avenues.
About 100 people, mostly family and friends, gathered in the parking lot of Grant’s Grocery to hold the vigil for Arnold on Wednesday evening. Balloons, candles and a teddy bear were placed on a traffic sign on the side of the road where Arnold was hit.

SAUGUS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) — It’s been more than three years since a driver on the Saugus Turnpike hit and killed a woman, then fled the scene. Now, with no strong leads in the cold case, police are turning to the public for help.
The crash, which happened early on Sunday, June 19, 2011, killed Kathleen O’Neil, a Lynn resident. She would have been 45 years old this month.

It’s been almost a year since Deborah Ann Burton was struck and killed in a hit and run as she was walking along a Barrow County road, yet no arrests have been made.
Now, they’re turning to the public again for help.

The driver, only identified as a 23-year-old woman, continued to her place of employment and called 911, according to police. Officers made contact with her.
Officers said her car was parked in the Déjà Vu Showgirls parking lot, 1 mile away from the crash scene.
Some Eyewitness News viewers are asking if this is a case of hit and run. Bakersfield Police Sgt. Joe Grubbs says that’s not clear yet.
“By statute, by the letter of the law she left the scene of the accident,” Grubbs said Friday afternoon. “However, there are other factors that come into play. There may be an explanation for it, there may be a legitimate, logical explanation that would make it unlikely that charges would be sought against her.”
