A local driver has been on the run for a year after police say he hit and killed someone who was simply crossing the street.
Friday will mark one year since Tommy Gann was run down near the intersection of Southeast Holgate and 15th.
Right after the crash, police identified Victorio Nogueda-Barrera as the driver, but they haven’t been able to find him anywhere. Gann’s family says they are tired of waiting and are now taking action.
“We want him found now,” said Gann’s niece, Melissa Ash. “He’s still out there, and my uncle is dead, it’s not fair.”
“It hasn’t been easy, my uncle was a good man. He was a dad, a papa, he loved his grandchildren, he loved his daughters, he loved his family.”
Thursday Gann’s family walked all over southeast Portland posting fliers with Nogueda-Barrera’s picture on them. They concentrated on areas they believe he used to work, in particular 188th and Stark.
“We think he had a fruit stand over here, so we’re just hoping by posting these fliers someone recognizes him and turns him in,” said Ash.

Los Angeles police are drafting plans for a proposed program that would offer Angelenos rewards of up to $50,000 for information that helps arrest and convict hit-and-run drivers.
Los Angeles has “the distinction of being the hit-and-run capital of the country,” City Councilman Joe Buscaino said at a meeting of the Public Safety Committee on Friday morning. Offering a reward would increase the incentive for witnesses to come forward, ultimately “bringing these cowards to justice.”
Last year, Los Angeles had more than 21,000 hit-and-run crimes, including more than 1,200 injuries and 41 deaths, L.A. Police Cmdr. Blake Chow told the committee.
