3688-89. Durham, NC. April 27. 53-year-old man and 54-year-old woman injured when struck by a late 1990s or early 2000s dark blue Dodge Caravan which fled the scene.
3690. Chicago, Ill. April 28. 50-year-old man “very critically” injured when struck by a gold or orange 2002 or 2004 Pontiac Grand Am which fled the scene.
3691. Las Vegas, Nev. Pedestrian injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
3692. Salinas, Cal. April 29. 16-year-old male injured when struck by a vehicle with a red passenger door and a white or tan stripe along the bottom which fled the scene.
3693. San Francisco, Cal. April 27. 24-year-old man suffers life-threatening head injuries when struck by a silver vehicle which fled the scene.
3694. Jacksonville, Fla. April 28. Woman injured when struck by a black SUV which fled the scene.
3695. Aberdeen, Wash. April 25. 40-year-old man injured when struck by a silver PT Cruiser which fled the scene.
3696. Bridgeport, Ct. April 30. 2-year-old boy critically injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
3697. Lancaster Twp., Pa. April 29. 8-year-old girl injured struck by a gold SUV which fled the scene. Police later ID suspect; charges pending.
3698. Houston, Texas. May 1. Woman in her 20s critically injured when struck by a van which fled the scene.
3699. Travellers Rest, SC. April 28. 19-year-old woman on bicycle injured when struck by an older-model four-door dark vehicle which fled the scene.

Days after CJOnline posted a slideshow this past summer including 20 unsolved homicides, authorities contacted The Topeka Capital-Journal’s online news editor to obtain photographs that could contain clues to solving a 27-year-old crime.
A memorable image on the cover of the April 21, 1986, Topeka Capital-Journal showed the siblings and mother of Richard “Richie” Alvin Witt Jr. reacting to Richie’s death.
Richie, 11, was struck and killed by a car April 20, 1986, while crossing the street at S.W. 19th and Gage Boulevard.
After the slideshow appeared online, Topeka Police Department detectives contacted the newspaper to obtain copies of photographs taken that night by then Capital-Journal staff photographer John Bock.
No arrests have been made — yet.
But Richie’s family members, friends and police officers hope someone will come forward with new information.

Sgt. Paul Winters lost his $92,300-a-year job on March 1, nine months after ordering a police report changed from a hit-and-run to an improper U-turn.

Police arrested Jacob A. Tolbert, 24, who faces two felonies in the death of Thomas L. Brazzell, 26, of Seymour. Brazzell died of head injuries in the parking lot of Caddies Pub, 2761 Central Ave., according to a Columbus Police Department media release.

A man has surrendered to police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia back in January.
Wade Bennett III of Lumberton, New Jersey, turned himself in to Pennsylvania State Police in Philadelphia Monday where he was transported to the 15th District for processing.
Bennett is charged with accidents involving death or personal injury.

Gerald Culverson of Chandler walked out of jail without charges earlier this month after being accused of killing his girlfriend, but ended up in a hospital one week later following a hit-and-run collision.

While police continue the investigation of the hit-and-run in Bryn Mawr that sent a five-year-old child in the hospital last week with head injuries, others in the community are turning to social media in order to help find the person responsible.
Last Thursday afternoon, police say a 46-year-old woman was crossing Lancaster Avenue at Bryn Mawr Avenue with her five-year-old twins when they were stuck by a black full-sized pickup truck. The driver sped off west on Lancaster Avenue and was last seen heading toward Villanova.
Police have been reviewing security cameras throughout the area and are continuing to ask for the public’s help in identifying the pickup truck that was described as being similar to a Ford F-150.
But now others are also getting involved and spreading the word using social media, trying to help find the driver and either have that person step forward or have someone who knows the person talk them into contacting police.

WILKES-BARRE – He didn’t hear the car coming or see what happened.
The only thing Stephen Miller, M.D., knew is that he was crossing North Street with his 5-year-old son, Kevin, one minute. In an instant, Kevin had disappeared.
“As I was stepping onto the curb, I felt Kevin leave my hand and I heard a thud,” Dr. Miller testified Monday at a preliminary hearing for his son’s alleged killer. “I looked to where he was and I saw a red car speeding away. It never slowed down.”

FLINT, MI — The daughter of a 66-year-old Flint man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in September 2011 after a domestic dispute called his killer a “coward of the worst kind” during an emotional sentencing hearing.
Eddie B. Simmons II, 34, of Flint, was sentenced Tuesday, April 30, by Genesee Circuit Judge Joseph Farah to 6 years, 8 months to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the death of Jewel Baxter.
