3595. Wilmington, NC. March 27. 73-year-old man on a bicycle injured when struck by a newer-model silver Nissan Altima which fled the scene.
3596. Crozet, Va. March 29. 71-year-old man fatally struck by a white Saab which fled the scene.
3597. Raleigh, NC. March 29. 28-year-old man on motor scooter injured when struck by a light-colored newer-model four-door sedan which fled the scene.

3611. Great Falls, Montana. April 1. 38-year-old man injured when struck by a Trailblazer which fled the scene.
3612. New Smyrna Beach, Fla. March 30. 28-year-old man injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
3613. Los Angeles, Cal. April 1. Man fatally struck by a light-colored vehicle; police believe the driver stopped, got out of his vehicle and “took a look at the person” before fleeing the scene.
3614. Atlanta, Ga. April 1. 11-year-old boy fatally struck by a vehicle which fled the scene; driver later surrendered.

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -Pat Suter, 87, was set to make a public statement on Friday about why she drove away from the scene of a hit and run accident involving local attorney Richard Leshin.
That statement did not happen, and neither has the personal apology Leshin wants from Suter.
Suter’s attorney, Mark DiCarlo, said that he warned his client about making a public statement, but they wanted to go ahead and make one anyway. However, before they did, they checked with well-known Houston attorney Dick Deguerin, who also told them to keep quiet.
With that second opinion, they opted not to talk.

DALLAS (March 30, 2013)–Tammy Lowe, 53, a former teacher at Adams Middle School in Grand Prairie, has been indicted for failure to stop and render aid and manslaughter in a hit- and-run accident that killed a 6-year-old boy. She remained free on bond Saturday.

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — North Versailles police have cited an off-duty North Versailles officer on Friday for a hit-and-run accident.

Akron police have arrested a different suspect in the hit-and-run of a 5-year-old boy and released the man who was originally in custody for the crime.
On March 15, Joshua Shaw, age 5, was walking home from Judith A. Resnick Elementary School with is 9-year-old sister when he was hit by a car.
Joshua’s sister said the driver got out of the car, ran towards the boy and said he was sorry. Then he jumped back into his vehicle and drove away.
Akron investigators said Shaune Chesney, 48, was identified as the driver. He was arrested and charged with hit-skip and driving under suspension. He has since been released and the charges were dropped.
On Friday, Akron police said they interviewed 38-year-old William E. Wilkes Jr. of Akron while acting on a tip from the Summit County Crimestoppers. Wilkes admitted to the crash on Goodhue Drive, and was charged with driving under a suspended license and felony hit-skip.

That begs the question: What kind of person chooses to flee a crash scene – especially when someone is hurt?
“Mostly what you’re looking at is people who blame others for their behaviors,” said forensic clinical specialist Dr. Paul Clements.
It comes down a lack of empathy.
“That it was an accident and they either blame the person for getting in their way. Or [the victim] should have been paying better attention.”
Clements, a professor at Drexel University, says the act doesn’t usually have malicious intent like premeditated murder. He believes these drivers suffer from a lack of good moral judgment – that should have been instilled when they were young.

Austin police say a University of Texas professor hit a bicyclist and left the scene on North Lamar Boulevard near West 10th Street.
Richard Cherwitz, 61, was charged Tuesday with failure to stop and render aid, an arrest warrant said. Cherwitz is a professor in the Department of Communications and in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing at UT, according to a UT website. He is also the founder and director of the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium at UT, according to the website.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man who was struck by a hit-and-run driver late Tuesday night has died. Police say 33-year-old Kristopher Caudill died at University Hospital at 8:14 a.m. from multiple blunt force injuries.

A Pennsauken man has been charged with the March 9 fatal hit-and-run of a Bayonne man, police said yesterday.
Bayonne police arrested Ruben A. Rodriguez, 43, a former truck driver for Cream-O-Land, in Camden at 6 p.m. Thursday and charged him with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.

There are new accusations of slow response times in the District. But this time, the accusations are aimed at D.C. Police.
Aimee Custis was walking to Union Station on Tuesday when she was hit by an SUV while in a cross walk. The driver, who Custis said appeared to be texting, yelled he was sorry and then left the scene. But it would be more than an hour before any help got to Custis.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office says a man killed in a Pittsburgh hit-and-run incident had reportedly argued with the driver of the vehicle before he was struck.
The medical examiner says the dead man is 40-year-old Chad Vida, of Etna, a nearby suburb. Pittsburgh police have yet to name the driver, though they say they know that person’s identity.

A Walker, LA man was arrested by police Sunday night following a hit-and run crash that injured two adults and a child. According to police the man ran away from the scene on foot and was later found at his home and appeared to be intoxicated.

Des Moines police made an arrest in the hit and run that left a man dead more than two weeks ago.
Kristine Annette Gordon, 26, was charged with failure to render aid causing death, driving while barred and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Authorities said Gordon was driving the vehicle that struck Clayton Evan Payne, 58.
