3235-36. Knoxville, Tenn. Dec. 9. Two men injured when struck by a large white van which fled the scene.
3237-38. West Allis, Wisc. Dec. 9. Two people struck by an older-model truck or SUV which fled the scene.
3239. Sloughton, Mass. Dec. 9. 15-year-old boy injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
3240. Summerville, SC. Dec. 8. 27-year-old woman struck and critically injured by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
3241. Long Beach, Cal. Dec. 11. 55-year-old man in a wheelchair killed when struck by a Honda Accord, a Honda Civic or a Nissan Altima which fled the scene.
3242. Fayetteville, NC. Dec. 8. 20-year-old Fort Bragg soldier killed when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
3243. Lumberton, NJ. Dec. 10. 63-year-old man critically injured when struck by a dark vehicle which fled the scene.
3244. Monroe, NY. Dec. 11. Sanitation worker struck and killed by a white minivan which fled the scene.

The father of a Schaumburg High School student killed in a weekend hit-and-run crash said Sunday his family has faith that the driver responsible will be brought to justice.
The family of 18-year-old Mikias Tibebu spent Sunday preparing to make arrangements to lay to rest the Schaumburg High School athlete and honors student, as police investigators continued their hunt for the hit-and-run driver.
“We believe in the justice system and we would like to see justice served and we trust that will happen,” said Mikias’ father, Tefera Tibebu Beyene. “We believe that will give closure to the family.”

This was the cause of this accident.”

Police arrested and charged a 27-year-old man last week in connection to a July hit-and-run accident.
Paul Taylor Atwell Jr., of Sparrow Court, was arrested Dec. 3 and charged with malicious wounding, said Harold Eley, a spokesman for the Newport News Police Department, in an email.

Earlier this year, Jalopnik commenters used their collective automotive knowledge to provide “critical” assistance to police in their investigation of a hit-and-run murder.
By identifying a small car piece that came off of a vehicle that struck and killed a woman, commenters aided police in apprehending two of the men involved.
Last week Travis and I visited the detectives who solved the case and accepted the Waynesboro, Virginia Police’s Departmental Commendation Ribbon for “exceptional performance by a citizen” on behalf of the Jalopnik commenters. We also learned some specifics about the case.
