2497-99. Urbana, Ill. May 1. Three college-aged women suffer non-life-threatening injuries when struck by a vehicle which fled the scene but was found shortly thereafter.
2500. Kendall, Fla. April 27. 19-year-old U. of Miami student from Pennsylvania critically injured when struck by a speeding, silver 2004-06 Mercedes-Benz which fled the scene. Her mother, Lisa Gresh, and her aunt are now by her side. “We flew down from Philadelphia after we got the news. We got the family together. Eliza is from a family of five children, so everyone wanted to come and see her, and we flew down on the first flight we could get,” said Lisa.
2501. Renton, Wash. May 1. Man suffers life-threatening injuries when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
2502. Newark, Del. April 30. 76-year-old woman struck and killed by a four-door Honda Accord, possibly black, that was manufactured between the years of 1998 -2002, which fled the scene.
2503. Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. April 30. 41-year-old man suffers life-threatening injuries when struck by a dark sedan which fled the scene.
2504. Billings, Mont. May 2. 4-year-old girl suffers non-life-threatening injuries when struck by a gold Ford Taurus which fled the scene.
2505-8. Oakland, Cal. May 3. Mother carrying an infant and walking with one other child injured when struck by a two-door silver or gray 1990’s model Toyota that was later found on fire.
2509. Chicago, Ill. May 2. Man in his 60s fatally struck by a white four-door sedan which fled the scene.

An eyewitness at the scene who asked not to be named told the Reformer that she had watched an altercation start between two men at Fast Eddie’s. One of the men was seen heading down Chickering Drive on foot, while the other man followed in a pick-up truck. The witness said it appeared that the man in the truck intentionally hit the other man who was on foot.

Mukesh K. Shah, 55, of the 100 block of West Vine Street, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court on Tuesday to charges of false reports, unsworn falsification to authorities, recklessly endangering another person, tampering with evidence, duty to give information and render aid and failure to notify police of an accident involving injury in connection with the 6:10 a.m. March 23, 2011, hit and run incident on Forty Foot Road.

Former Houston city councilman and conservative radio talk show host Michael Berry will not be charged with hit-and-run stemming from a Jan. 31 incident outside a Montrose gay bar.
“All I can tell you is based on the totality of the circumstances, we’re not going to file the charge,” said Assistant District Attorney Connie Spence, who declined to discuss specifics of the case. “We are always looking to do the right thing. And in this particular case, at this point in time, charges will not be filed.”
According to documents obtained Tuesday by the Houston Chronicle, prosecutors have not been able to contact club bouncer Tuderia Bennett. The club employee reported that a black Chevrolet Tahoe, registered to Berry, hit his car outside TC’s Show Bar and drove off.

“I mean it’s a kid, it’s not an animal, it’s not something you just scoot off the side of the road or just go on by, after you run it over,” says one of the girl’s family members who is outraged by the event.
Guess was riding her bike in front of her home on W. 13Th Ave. when playtime took an unexpected turn for the worst.
“She was on that side of the street over there riding her bike,” says Hannah’s Grandfather, Harold Wheatley Sr., “well this car came down the street and swerved over to the other side and hit her, threw her up on the hood of the car and when she came down, she hit her arm on the curb and broke it .”

“[The driver] said, ‘Yeah, I hit your car.’ So, I thanked him. I said, ‘Great, let’s collect your insurance info,” said Matthew Motl, who snapped cell phone photos of the truck that slammed into his parked car.
Motl said the man smelled of alcohol and became nervous when the police were mentioned.
“I just tried to play it cool – as shaken up as I was – because I was afraid he might bolt,” said Motl.
That is exactly what the driver did.

Almost unnoticed, Miguel Angel Rocafort was struck by an early-morning hit-and-run driver while out riding his bicycle in Southwest Miami-Dade and left, badly injured and alone, lying on a grassy swale.
Five days later, the hardworking 51-year-old father, husband and model neighbor died suddenly from complications of his injuries, only the latest victim of what critics say are Miami’s dangerous streets. The motorist who struck him has not been found.
According to Rocafort’s family, the sole witness to the March 31 hit-and-run said the driver got out of his car, looked down at the injured cyclist, then coldly got back in his car without rendering aid and took off.
“He was a great guy, always happy, always wanting to help people,’’ said Rocafort’s stepson, Andre Caballero. “He took good care of my mom, who’s just detroyed over this. It’s a great loss for us.’’

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — A family has issued an emotional plea for help in finding the driver responsible for running over their loved one, then leaving him in the middle of the road.
Forty-one-year-old accountant Jon Gouthro of Boca Raton came to Fort Lauderdale over the weekend to watch the Lauderdale Air and Sea Show and to unwind after a busy tax season.
Early Sunday morning, the Bahamas native was walking back to his hotel when a driver struck him near Seabreeze Boulevard and Poinsettia Street. The driver never stopped and fled the scene.
A witness dialed 911 while trying to keep up with the fleeing driver but was unsuccessful.
Gouthro sustained very serious brain injuries in the accident. He is now in a coma, and doctors said his head wounds are so severe that they cannot make a long-term prognosis. “We’re hoping he pulls through, he’s fighting for his life. We can tell he’s fighting for his life,” said the victim’s brother, Chris Gouthro.

A Hennepin County jury convicted Amy Senser of two counts of criminal vehicular homicide on Thursday, May 3.
The prosecution painted Senser, 45, of Edina as an irresponsible person who was likely drunk the night of Aug. 23 when her Mercedes-Benz ML350 SUV hit Anousone Phanthavong, 38, of Roseville on the Riverside Avenue exit ramp of westbound Interstate 94.
The three felony counts accused Senser of leaving the scene of an accident where she knew she had killed or injured someone, failing to notify police as soon as possible and driving in a “grossly negligent manner.”
