An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

759. Sioux Falls, SD. Aug. 9. 63-year-old woman injured after being struck by a black Subaru sedan which fled the scene.

760. West Seneca, NY. Aug. 11. 14-year-old girl suffers injuries when struck by a silver, four-door sedan that took off after hitting her.

761. Detroit, Mich. Aug. 11. 63-year-old man on a bicycle suffers unreported injuries after being struck by a dark SUV.

762. Largo, Fla. Aug. 10. 54-year-old man critically injured after being struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene. His injuries are considered life-threatening.

763. Philipsburg, Pa. Aug. 10. A 28-year-old woman and 33-year-old man injured when struck by a mid-sized, four-door sedan, gray or silver in color which didn’t remain at the scene post-collision.

764. W. Terre Haute, Ind. Aug. 12. 18-year-old man seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle which fled the scene (but may have been that of the person who called the accident in.)

    San Diego, CA: In February of 2009, my then-roommate Mona was struck by a car as she stepped off a curve. The driver took off, leaving her lying in the street. Passersby helped her, called an ambulance, and wrote down the license of the hit-and-run driver.

    The ride to the hospital and subsequent bills came to thousands. The police refused to arrest the driver, a Japanese citizen who was a college student in San Diego, despite the fact that there were injuries and witnesses.

    A complete and bewildering failure of law enforcement.
