536. Phoenix, Ariz. June 16. 4-year-old boy being watched by a babysitter critically injured when struck by a “white 2002 Hyundai Sonata, Arizona plate AJN1987” which fled the scene. The babysitter’s boyfriend rushed the child to the hospital.
537. Jackson, Miss. June 12. 52-year-old man killed when run over by two people he caught trying to break into his car. They fled the botched-robbery/fatal-collision scene in a “white, two-door Chevrolet Monte Carlo with chrome wheels.”
538. Enid, Okla. June 16. Toddler struck and killed by “a white sport utility vehicle with large chrome rims” which fled the scene.
539. Chambersburg, Pa. June 12. 48-year-old man on moped escapes serious injury despite being struck by a “white older-model vehicle” which took off.

CHINO (California) – Councilman Earl Elrod (pictured) will be arraigned next week for his involvement in a hit-and-run incident that led to a standoff with police at his house. Elrod was arrested for driving under the influence related to the Feb. 14 incident at C and 10th streets, but he was able to escape that charge because California Highway Patrol officers could not show evidence of it.
CHP officers were unable to test the councilman for alcohol or drugs that night. Elrod avoided authorities by refusing to come out of his house – where he had fled – despite numerous requests from CHP officers as well as an assistant Chino police chief and a captain.
No, 30 days is most certainly not ample punishment for a fatal hit-and-run.
