ANTIOCH — While the parents of hit-and-run victim Timothy Hudson were burying their son at a local cemetery Monday, a crew of city workers and police converged onto the site of Hudson’s death to remove illegal speed bumps the family says was placed to prevent another tragedy.
The bump was installed Friday afternoon by a small group of men, three days after the Timothy Hudson’s mother, Linda Hudson, declared at a City Council meeting that speeding drivers had been a problem on the street long before the collision that killed her son and that speed bumps were needed. When the Hudsons did not hear back from the city, Linda Hudson, 73, planned to install them herself, but a group of “speed bump fairies” she did not know beat her to it, she said.
Mayor Wade Harper said he believes the folks who installed the speed bumps had good intentions but that they inadvertently created a liability by installing it.
