Garland police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian in April.

“Nobody’s seen anything, nobody knows anything, and there are still no leads from the police, said Nigaglioni. “It just seems like a cold case. But for us, it isn’t. Because we really want to know what happened that night.”

Shurson’s injuries left her hospitalized for more than a month, and since her release she’s been wheelchair-bound. Her life has been forever changed, says her lawyer Pam Rochlin of Minneapolis, and it doesn’t appear as if police ever investigated the incident further.

The Ford Mustang that killed a 52-year-old Queens man on New Year’s morning in a hit-and-run crash was found set in flames later in Long Island, police sources told the Post.

And I quote (XI)…

In 1963, Albemarle County was rocked by the mysterious hit-and-run death of high school football star James “Pat” Akins. Five decades later, police still have no answers, but they haven’t given up on the case.

On Wednesday, 72-year-old Jimmy Dettor, one of Akins’ former friends, offered $20,000 for information related to his friend’s death. Hoping the reward will encourage someone to come forward, Dettor said it’s been difficult to move on without closure.

“There are questions out there that have never been answered, and they need to still be answered,” Dettor said. “I feel like it’s time, after 53 years, for this case to be cleared.”

The driver, later identified as Hafzalla, reportedly drove several yards before stopping her SUV, got out and approached Yelli. She asked a witness whether Yelli was dead; the witness told her to move her car to the side of the road, court records indicate.

Instead, Hafzalla allegedly got back into her car and sped off, with the grocery basket still stuck to the front grill of her car.

“Every fatal hit and run that occurs in our city leaves a family in mourning,” Rodriguez said at the press conference yesterday. “Hit and runs occur with far too great a frequency. Today we are sending a message that we’re willing to put our money where our mouth is to catch and prosecute cowardly individuals who leave people for dead as they flee the scene. 2017 should be the year we say enough is enough and make ending hit and run crashes a priority.”

“Today he would have come through our door and just said ‘Hi’ to see how we were doing and visited with the kids and asked about Christmas break, those are just things he would have done, and the fact that he can’t do that is just sad.”

A memorial of running shoes line the roadside where a man was killed in a hit-and-run accident last week in south Tulsa.

Michael Reid, 49, was killed while jogging on South Sheridan Road near 91st Street when he was hit by a vehicle.

And I quote (XVI)…

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa. (WOWT) — A long time Council Bluffs police officer is in the Pottawattamie County jail facing charges stemming from a hit-and-run incident Sunday night.

And I quote (XVII)…

Mesa, Az. — A man suspected of being the driver in a fatal hit-and-run Monday morning has reportedly taken his own life.

And I quote (XVIII)…

“It was literally an hour or so after we put the information out about the pickup that tips started coming in,” Wyoming police Lt. Mark Easterly said.

And I quote (XIX)…

A 24-year-old woman remains jailed after running over her companion twice when leaving a strip club on New Year’s Day, according to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office agents.

And I quote (XX)…

West Manchester Township Police arrested a woman after they said she huffed an aerosol can, got into a crash, then left the scene and continued to huff in a store bathroom.


And I quote (XXI)…

“He didn’t have no disability. There was no disability,” explained sister, Telisha Peck. “Disability means ‘you can’t.’ “Dis” means not. He don’t know that word. He didn’t know that word. There was nothing he couldn’t do.”

And I quote (XXII)…

DETROIT, MI — A memorial marker for Detroit Police Officer Myron Jarrett, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver, will be placed above the street sign near where the deadly crash occurred.

And I quote (XXIII)…

Tallying reports in the Daily News and elsewhere, the advocacy group Transportation Alternatives identified 39 hit-and-run fatalities in 2016, up from 29 the previous year.

Deadly drivers show no sign of slowing in 2017, claiming one life for each of the first nine days of January, more than double the number last year — four of them fleeing the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian.

The heart breaks at the inhumanity. But pitched emotions unhelpfully cloud the cold pragmatism necessary to bring perpetrators of these crimes to justice.

 – More than a year after a fatal hit and run accident, the daughter of a former Cambridge, Minnesota police officer has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Prosecutors did not charge Bailey Anne Hanson, 22, with the more serious offense of criminal vehicular homicide.

Tishira Japa, hit by a car 14 hours earlier that fractured her pelvis in seven places, was stable and settled in the intensive care unit of St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx. Only then did her stepfather and family turn to the circumstances.

What followed, by the careful account of her stepfather, Allen Sneed, is a case study in what seems to be a public safety agency’s indifference to showing basic decency to a citizen who was critically injured and, possibly, the victim of a crime.

“I get my jacket. I try and run after them and that’s when they start their car up and they start going. I don’t know how they were able to drive away from that,” Eisele said.

STATESVILLE, N.C. – A Statesville man paralyzed in a hit-and-run more than five years ago is finally closer to getting justice.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A judge spared the woman who killed former Cleveland police officer Shanni Dizard in a hit-and-run accident from prison.

And I quote (XXIX)…

Councilmember Ydanis Rodriguez renewed his call yesterday for two bills intended to hold hit-and-run drivers accountable following a hit-and-run in midtown on Monday which left a man in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital.

Abishek Tulsyan: “I tried to get up, I walked a few steps, and I fell down … It was really scary to see that video.”


And I quote (XXXI)…

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Dozens of people came out Friday evening to celebrate the 21st birthday of a CSU student who overcame tremendous odds after she was seriously injured in a car wreck.

Asia Hoskins suffered a traumatic brain injury during what police say was a hit and run accident on Lawyers Lane more than a year ago.

CORPUS CHRISTI – A woman who was given a five-percent change of survival continues to beat the odds.

Maria Anderson and her boyfriend, Tyler Sheets were struck by a hit and run driver, last August.
