COLUMBIA, SC Police have released the identity of the suspect who allegedly fled after hitting a child with a van Thursday.
Antonio Burkett, 20, is wanted by Columbia police for the Thursday incident on the 2300 block of Two Notch Road, officials said.

“The initial investigation appears to show that, prior to his death; Mr. Elliott left his residence on Messenger Street,” said a news release from Toms River Police. “It is believed he was walking to the bus terminal on Highland parkway. Shapiro, who represented Tomica in her criminal trial, says she’s pleased to be heading home.
“Naturally, I’m very very happy for Karlie and her family that she’s back home now. It’s been a long road for her, and it continues to be a long and never-ending road for the Riccioletti family,” Shapiro says. “She’s enthusiastic about talking about her story and sharing it with young people.”
Tomica already filmed interviews for an anti-drunk driving documentary for the Dori Slosberg Foundation, Shapiro says.
“She’s very hopeful she can turn this tragedy into a way to educate young people,” Shapiro says. “She’s the perfect messenger for them because she’s still so young and has such youthful looks.”

ST. LOUIS • An elderly pedestrian who was struck by debris from a hit-and-run collision on Dec. 9 died of his injuries in a hospital on Christmas Day, police said.

Friends and family members released balloons into the sky Friday afternoon to remember Michael Mince, a 15-year-old from Kyle who was killed in a hit-and-run Monday while he was walking down a Hays County highway.
The event was an emotional memorial for those who attended, who said Mince was taken too soon. Police have not yet found the driver responsible.

“The scene out here is rather grisly. In addition to the front grill and headlights from the striking vehicle, we have the victim. A 71-year-old retired male who had major trauma injury at the time that he did out here in the middle of Chew Avenue,” Philadelphia Police Captain Drew Techner said.
