CHULA VISTA, CA — An oft-deported Mexican citizen accused of driving drunk and fleeing the scene after blowing through a stop sign and crashing his truck into a car, seriously injuring a 6-year-old boy, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to felony charges. Constantino Acosta-Banda, 38, is charged with hit-and-run causing permanent injury, DUI causing great bodily injury and driving without a license.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In January investigators arrested John Giumarra III, a member of a well-known Kern County farming family, after they said he hit a bicyclist while under the influence on Golden State Avenue and F Street.

In newly obtained court documents, Bakersfield Police said they found an empty bottle of vodka in the rear sear of Giumarra’s vehicle.

The woman on the bicycle, Angela Holder, 32, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Nearly a month after he was severely injured in a hit-and-run crash near Barry University, Damion Beckford remains in critical condition — and Miami-Dade police are looking for the driver.

Just before 2 a.m. on April 16, Beckford, 29, was crossing Northwest Seventh Avenue near Northwest 112th Street in the Pinewood neighborhood when the driver of what police believe is a Ford F-150 pummeled him. He remains in the hospital being treated for critical injuries, police say.

MANCHESTER — An off-duty city police officer is accused of hitting a woman with his car early Sunday morning and, after checking on her, fleeing the scene of the collision.

In a court document filed Wednesday, Mikulich’s criminal attorney, Paul Stracci, said that his client “intends to raise the defense to all counts that he is not responsible as a result of mental disease or defect which left him unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of his conduct, if any, at the the time of the alleged offenses.”

“Whoever did this has now taken my father away, our father away, and that hangs really heavy over me,” said Cade. “They should be held accountable for their actions.”

As he walked out of the courtroom, Derise confronted a member of the media and loudly said, “Don’t take pictures of my family.” A man and woman accompanied him.
