A conversation overheard at a retail store in Shelton helped police track down the identity of the driver who allegedly struck and killed a woman crossing Howe Avenue last year, according to an arrest warrant.

Last week police charged 25-year-old William Donofrio with evading responsibility in an accident resulting in a death, tampering with evidence, and failure to exercise due care to avoid colliding with a pedestrian.

Police said Donofrio was driving a Ford Taurus on Howe Avenue May 11, 2016 when he struck 54-year-old Teresa Glossy as she was crossing the street.

JERSEY CITY — A Jersey City police officer will spend three years in prison and be forced to turn in his badge after being sentenced for leaving the scene of a 2015 accident in Weehawken that left a man in a coma.

Patrolman Jermaine Gonzalez, 34, of Weehawken, was off duty when he struck Firas Natsheh, 43, of North Bergen, on Hackensack Plank Road on July 2, 2015. Natsheh, who remains in a coma to this day, was walking with traffic but was not on the sidewalk or within a crosswalk, police said.

Pittsburgh Police are asking witnesses to come forward in a hit and run incident last month outside of the Carnegie Library in Sheraden that injured a little girl.

Police in Palo Alto Friday evening said they arrested three suspects hiding in a shed who were suspected in a hit-and-run of a bicyclist south of downtown.

A Montgomery County man charged in the March 3 hit-and-run death of a Pottstown man on Route 100 attempted to sell his truck the night of the crash and also lied about how damage to the vehicle occurred, investigators reported Friday.

Adam Timbario, 28, of Gilbertsville, hoped that he’d elude authorities by selling the truck, investigators say. But his attempt to sell the truck ultimately led to his arrest, according to detectives.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – A Sugar Land woman is responsible for a deadly hit-and-run crash Friday on South Padre Island, according to police.

The crash injured five people, killing one. The ages of the victims range in age from 16 to 22.

Daisy Joy Decker, 20, was arrested Friday, according to the South Padre Island Police Department.

DENVER — A man who was hit by a vehicle last week has been identified and reunited with his family after suffering from memory loss as a result of the crash, the Denver Police Department said.

ST. PETERSBURG – A 17-year-old girl died after she was struck by a hit and run driver while crossing a street, St. Petersburg police said.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Syracuse firefighter and another man left a critically injured teen lying in the street and went into a nearby club after a hit-and-run crash involving a district attorney’s investigator, a source said.

The firefighter, Edward “Ted” Ackerman, and another man witnessed Peter Rauch drive his DA-issued car into a pedestrian on North Salina Street at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the source familiar with the investigation.

The two men then went into the nearby Pastime Athletic Club and went into the bar, the source said.

STAMFORD, Conn. — A woman’s attempt to cover up her involvement in hit-and-run accident finally led police to persuade her boyfriend to lure her to his apartment so they could arrest her, Stamford Police said.

And I quote (XXI)…

The grandmother of a Gwinnett County toddler who died after being hit by a car in front of her house was arrested in connection with the incident, police said Wednesday.

Gilma J. Ordonez-Guevara, 44, of Lawrenceville, is charged with vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and not having a license, Cpl. Michele Pihera said.

“I’m a desperate mom,” said Dana Elliott. ”I need to know what happened to my baby. I need to know if this was done purposefully or was it a hit-and-run.”

Though no arrest has been made, a stranger called a man who was critically injured in a hit-and-run admitting to the crash and apologizing for leaving him on the road to die.
