10303. Long Beach, Cal. “The cargo van then dragged the pedestrian approximately 900 feet northbound on Paramount Boulevard,” police said in a statement. “The cargo van fled the scene making no attempt to stop, render aid or notify police or paramedics.”
10304. Northampton County, Pa. Five years ago this month, a New Jersey man was killed in a hit-and-run on Route 22 in Northampton County. State Police said they are continuing to search for leads in hopes of finally tracking down the driver who hit the man and took off.
10305. Mineola, NY. Police say a hit-and-run driver killed a man over a $22 gas bill in front of a South Hempstead station.
10306. Fishtown (Philadelphia).
10307. Portland, Oregon. The video was posted to YouTube the next day by a resident who captured the scene on a surveillance camera. The identities of the people involved and the person who posted the video, as well as the conditions of the three people hit, were not immediately clear.
10308. Silver Lake, Cal. A 57-year-old grandmother was struck and killed while collecting recyclables from a trash bin in Silver Lake early Wednesday and police were searching for the driver they say might not have known he hit the woman.
10309. Charlotte, NC. The driver who hit Ruffin pulled into the parking lot of a Royal Inn and walked over to the pedestrian lying in the road, police said in Thursday’s news release. The driver then returned to the SUV and drove away. He was last seen traveling toward North Graham Street, police said.
10310. Salt Lake City, Utah. A man who police say hit and killed a bicyclist and then drove off told investigators he was scared, police say.
10311. Overbrook (Philadelphia). “We pushed the button to cross the street. The cars on that side of the street had stopped. The next thing, I know we were on the ground,” she explained.
10312. Washington, D.C. The driver who killed a Smithsonian employee who was riding his bike to work in September will serve 18 months in prison.
10313. Frankford (Philadelphia). “He went to get his phone out of his car and that was it,” Carter said.
10314. Bristol, Tenn. “I remember I wanted that woman to suffer. but I also remember at the sentencing that I said, ‘My brother would not want what I wanted.’”
13015. Wilmington, NC.
10316. Rosemead, Cal. “I heard a thump,” says Joey Coyazo, “It sounded like a crash. But without any screeching of tires so I knew someone had just hit something without braking.”
10317. Detroit, Mich. Around 7:10 p.m. Jan. 8, an 81-year-old man was driving westbound on McNichols when an unknown driver in a dark colored SUV drove through a red light on Livernois and struck the man’s car. After the crash, the unknown driver fled the scene, heading northbound on Livernois. The 81-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
10318. Olympia, Wash. Isaiah, who is autistic, had wandered away from his home just minutes before he was struck. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition and later died of his injuries.
10319. Indianapolis, Ind. “Tonight, we’re gathering to celebrate Faith’s life,” a family friend said to the group. “To not be sad, because we all know she’s a happy person, so we want to celebrate and be thankful we got an opportunity to know her and love her.”
10320. San Jose, Cal. “If you take all of our strengths and deeds we still don’t equal that one person,” said Keith. “But it is our intent to try and be better and to continue his legacy.”
10321. Philadelphia. Nearly 40 times a day, a call comes into the Philadelphia police department for a particular crime: vehicular hit-and-run.
Police took reports for almost 29,000 hit-and-runs in 2017 and 2018, according to data obtained by NBC10 through a right-to-know request. It’s a total that overwhelms investigators, stunting their ability to track down suspects. And it’s a sad commentary on the respect for rule of law, as far as one high-ranking accident investigator sees it.
“That’s a decision, ” Capt. Mark Overwise says of fleeing a crash scene. “And as a society, we shouldn’t tolerate it.”
10322. Chicago, Ill. A 15-year-old high school student was struck and killed by a vehicle wanted in connection with several hit-and-run crashes in a Chicago suburb, officials said.
10323. Times Square (NYC). Police say at 5:53 a.m., the 72-year-old man on the bicycle was struck by a vehicle that kept on going a deli worker at the Carve café called 911. The bicyclist later died at the hospital.
10324. Wichita Falls, Texas. Dallas police said the pickup that hit and killed a 3-year-old Wichita Falls boy has been recovered in Irving, but they are still searching for the driver. Jorge Neri was killed Saturday afternoon in a northwest Dallas strip center parking lot. Ramon Garcia-Ruiz, 24, is the owner of the truck and police believe he was behind the wheel when the boy was hit and killed. Witnesses said the driver never slowed down.
10325. Richmond, Va. Authorities said a 42-year-old Henrico woman has been arrested in a deadly hit-and-run that killed a pregnant teenager on New Year’s Day in Richmond.
