Hit-and-Run America, Vol. CMLXXIII

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously. After a respite from keeping the list, it restarted in January 2019, highlighting one case a day. If there’s a case you’ve seen that deserves highlighting, drop me a line at hickey@brianphickey.com.

13892. Tribal police in central Minnesota are searching for a driver they say was involved in a fatal hit-and-run Monday afternoon. Around 4:45 p.m., a driver hit a pedestrian who was walking on the 40000 block of Highway 169, according to the Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department. The pedestrian died at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol identified the pedestrian as 56-year-old Cathy Donovan of Onamia.

13893. According to the Orchard Park Police Department, the crash occurred at 8:20 p.m. – around the time the Bills game against the Denver Broncos kicked off. The pedestrian – a 65-year-old man from Rochester – was struck on Southwestern Boulevard, near Stadium Drive. Witnesses told responding officers that the involved vehicle fled eastbound on Southwestern Boulevard.

13894. The victim’s aunt, Lia Muniz, is begging the person who hit her nephew to turn themselves in and do the right thing. “He has two children. He has a little girl and a little boy. He was a great nephew, hard worker and getting his life together,” she said.

13895. The Plattsburgh City Police Department is looking for a driver believed to have injured a child in a hit-and-run on Monday. Police said a juvenile male was walking north through a crosswalk on Brinkerhoff Street at the intersection of Oak Street just before 3 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.

13896. A 46-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a hit-and-run SUV driver in Brooklyn, police said Tuesday.

13898. “As they’re coming from Crenshaw, they seem like they want to just speed instead of stopping right here at 12th street. The kids and the crossing guard sitting right there and they just speed, and some people walking across the street sometimes — they keep going instead of stopping. They won’t stop at this corner. They keep going,” said Carlois Berry.

13899. Officers responded to a vehicle crash at approximately 10:25 p.m. and found an unresponsive man in the roadway who had been struck by a vehicle, LPD said in a news release.
