Hit-and-Run America, Vol. CMLXVIII

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously. 13815. A hit-and-run driver killed a 28-year-old man in Prince George’s County – and the suspect was caught on doorbell camera. Police say 28-year-old Franklin Mendez was found dead in the street at Ardwick Ardmore Road on Saturday.

13816. An unknown man driving a pickup truck went through a red light Tuesday evening striking a 23-year-old woman crossing DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Buckingham Fountain in the Loop, Chicago police said.

13817. Tulsa Police Traffic Investigators are asking for help with information about a recent deadly hit-and-run accident

13818. “She stopped, got out, went around the back side of her car. Saw me, looked me in the eyes, turned around, and got back in her car,” he said. “No emotion, no anything. Like no remorse or anything like that. It was like she hit a stick or something.”

13819. A pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed by a driver in a stolen car who fled the scene, officials said Thursday.

13820. A bystander was killed after having his leg severed in a hit-and-run crash that occurred Wednesday night in Oakland, police confirmed.

13821. DAVIE, FLA. (WSVN) – A hit-and-run incident on Interstate 595 claimed the life of one person Thursday night. The crash occurred just east of Nob Hill Road in Davie around 10:45 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was struck while changing a tire.

13822. It happened around 5:42 a.m. in the 11100 block of Bradley Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers said a grey sedan hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

13823. Baby delivered after hit-and-run crash that killed pregnant mother has died, San Jose police say.

13824. LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are looking for the semitrailer driver who injured a woman in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday. A white semi hit the 43-year-old woman, who was in a wheelchair, around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Southwest 27th and West O streets. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

13825. The Galveston Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run involving a 61-year-old man killed on Thursday. Authorities say around 9:20 p.m., a pickup truck struck a man who was walking along 28th Seawall Boulevard. Eyewitnesses at the scene told police that the truck drove away before police arrived.

13826. One person was taken into custody on Friday morning after a casket containing a deceased person’s body was ejected from a hearse during a hit-and-run crash, according to police in south suburban Homewood.

13827. NORTH EAST, MD – Maryland State Police are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a man in Cecil County.

13828. MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man died after being hit by an SUV in Parkway Village on Friday, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

13829. Police are looking for the driver who killed a pedestrian and then drove off early Friday morning in Pacoima.

MICHIGAN CITY — With just less than two years left to charge someone in the Sept. 12, 2020, hit-and-run death of Tara Stevens, Michigan City Police Chief Steve Forker is holding out hope that a recent vigilante-style social media campaign will not stand in the way of a much-needed break in the case. “Someone knows something,” Forker said Wednesday following a highly unusual two-hour deep sharing into the investigation with local media. “Someone saw vehicle damage. Someone fixed that vehicle. We need your help.”

13831. “I was standing right here when that happened,” said Albert Marquez, the victim’s neighbor. “I just heard the collision and I turned around and he wasn’t there. I looked over there and I saw his body just laying there.”

13832. Miami-Dade police said Wednesday they need the public’s help in finding a man suspected in a hit-and-run that killed a 60-year-old pedestrian crossing an Opa-locka street.

13833. The North Charleston Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Friday night.

13834. Chicago police are asking for help finding the person who hit and seriously injured a person early Sunday morning in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood. Around 2:45 a.m., a driver hit a person in the 9100 block of South King Drive and left the area, according to the Chicago Police Department.

13835. Cleveland Police released the identity of the suspect Saturday accused of striking an officer and leaving the scene of the accident after a Browns game earlier this month.

13836. A 55-year-old man has been charged in connection to a hit-and-run with a bicyclist that occurred on High Street on Saturday night.

13837. According to officers, the pedestrian was walking in the roadway when he was first hit by the first vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle stopped to provide assistance. However, a second car hit the same pedestrian and did not stop.

13838. Lexington police are searching for the driver responsible in an overnight hit and run here in Lexington that injured a man.

13839. The crash involving a car and the pedestrians happened near the 2300 block of South Havana Street, police said via X, formerly known as Twitter. A spokesperson for the department said they received the call about the incident after 2 a.m.

13840. A man suffered a head injury after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Bronx early Monday morning, police said.

13841. “He was taking his last breaths. The back of his head was bleeding. It looked like it was blood coming from his ear,” said the witness.

13842. According to a report from the TxDPS, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Reagan County off U.S. 67.
