KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Belton man continues to have an impact on his family and friends even after his death.
A benefit was held Sunday at the Cowtown Mallroom for Leroy “Buddy” Bronson. Bronson died April 6 in a hit-and run-accident. Police said the driver of a 2004 Silver Ford F-150 pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Bannister and Wornall, when the motorcycle driven by Bronson and the truck collided in the intersection.
Just two years before he died, Bronson’s wife and daughter were killed by a drunk driver. His family said after losing them, Bronson wanted to live everyday to the fullest — whether it was his love for motorcycles or swap meets.
” We’re not going to let him fade away. Just because he is not here, we don’t want to let him fade away. We don’t want him to be just another one of those people who gets lost as a cold case,” said Tyler Russell, Bronson’s step son.

Steven Arden Bates, 40, called the Redding Police Department around 9:34 a.m. today to turn himself in. Officers said Bates was interviewed after turning himself in and then released as officers continued their investigation.
Police said they identified Bates after officers went to Heather Lane, off Hartnell Avenue, around 11:11 p.m. Friday and found a woman on the ground.
Police determined that she’d been hit by a pickup towing a travel trailer, which had left the area.
The woman died from her injuries, officers said.

One resident, fearing that he encountered a burglar, fired several warning shots into the air to scare the man away. No one was hit by the bullets, but calls from neighbors to 911 reflected the new developments. Based on the amount of blood on the fleeing suspect’s shirt, neighbors told emergency dispatchers the man appeared to have been shot.
Police later discovered the man’s injuries were from the car accident only. One witness said the man had a large gash across his forehead.
