An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

3636. Rutland, Vt. April 10. 71-year-old woman fatally struck by a dark SUV which fled the scene.

3637. Fort Dodge, Iowa. April 10. 11-year-old boy injured when struck by a red truck which fled the scene.

3638. Waterloo, Iowa. April 8. 8-year-old boy injured when struck by a Grand Am which fled the scene. Police actively seeking suspect.

3639. Rochester, NY. April 8. 39-year-old jogger injured when struck by an SUV which fled the scene.

3640. Chicago, Ill. April 11. 27-year-old man killed after being struck and dragged two blocks by a dark-colored Kia which fled the scene.

3641. Gary, Ind. April 10. 18-year-old jogger injured after being struck by an older-model SUV which fled the scene.

And I quote (I)…

A Long Island woman surrendered to police Thursday after a deadly hit and run back in September.

Nicole Grammarstorf is also accused of getting help to cover up the crime.

Prosecutors are set to unseal an indictment accusing Grammarstorf of mowing down a pedestrian in Huntington Station, dragging him for 500 feet and leaving him for dead.

And what’s worse, prosecutors say she enlisted the help of an auto mechanic to get rid of her damaged Nissan Pathfinder.

Mark Monserrat, who owns a body shop in Deer Park, allegedly bought the car from Grammarstorf with plans to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer.

Joseph Gathambiri, 25, of Marietta, was riding a bicycle on south Marietta Parkway heading to work at a fast food restaurant just before daybreak when he was struck and killed by a black 1994 Toyota truck, according to Marietta police.

Police arrested Damon Thomas Lautch, 27, on Wednesday afternoon, and charged him with hit and run, DUI and first degree vehicular homicide, according to police spokesman Michael Gardner.

St. Louis resident William Gallagher, eighteen, has been charged in the hit-and-run crash this week that killed 87-year-old Virginia Bedrosian.

And I quote (IV)…

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A witness told police that a Lutheran bishop accused of driving drunk when he struck and killed a runner in Sun Prairie on Sunday never braked after the crash and appeared to be trying to flee the scene, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday.

Bishop Bruce Burnside, 59, was formally charged with three felonies: homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, hit and run resulting in death and homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. Burnside also was charged with misdemeanor hit and run after police say he also hit a vehicle.

A Fort Bragg soldier has been charged with second-degree murder and hit-and-run in the death of a motorcyclist in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville police spokesman Lt. Todd Joyce says that police on Tuesday charged 35-year old Edward William Hall of the 50th Signal Battalion. It was not immediately clear if Hall had an attorney.

A 19-year-old woman was standing alone in the grass on the side of an eastside Athens roadway two months ago when an alleged drunk driver hit her with his truck and fled the scene, according to documents filed this week in Clarke County Superior Court.

DENVER – Tips helped lead police to the arrest of a suspect in a fatal hit and run from early Tuesday morning.

During a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Denver Police said the suspect was Nathan Beechley, 30. Crime Stoppers tips were credited with helping lead officers to the arrest.

“In this particular case, the information we received, once we started to develop that information, took us right to certain location and to certain person,” Sgt. Mike Farr said.

DETROIT (WWJ) – Family members and Crime Stoppers are hoping a $2,500 reward will help them find the person responsible for hitting and killing a 10-year-old boy on Detroit’s east side.

Police say Christopher Sandoval was taking out the trash outside his east side Detroit home when he was struck by a truck that ran off the road.

And I quote (IX)…

Kansas City police arrested a 24-year-old suspect in the fatal hit-and-run wreck that killed a motorcyclist early Sunday, but later released him, pending further investigation.

The suspect lives in Kansas, has a previous arrest for driving under the influence and declined to speak with investigators, police said. Detectives said they have more work to do before they seek charges.

Police tracked down the suspect through his pickup truck, which was left at the scene.

“I’m in shock right now,” said Freddy Artavia of Garfield, who said he will be traveling to Costa Rica today with his brother’s body. “Life is like this sometimes, and sometimes it’s no good. … We want to know who the person is who did this.”

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — The husband of actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer pleaded guilty today to two charges related to a February hit-and-run accident that allegedly occurred a few hours after his wife was sentenced for a drunken driving crash that killed a woman in 2010, according to a municipal court official.

And I quote (XIII)…

Slaton, Texas – A woman, who police believe killed a man and fled the scene, has been indicted for manslaughter after some serious detective work. The Department of Public Safety spent months investigating a December moped accident that killed 53-year-old Dierk Zieher on Hwy. 84.

Loved ones of the victims were visibly shaken during the second day of testimony Wednesday in the Curtis Harper trial.

Prosecutors showed the clothing that was worn by Nelson Soto and Chasity Thornell the night they died. Family members cried during that testimony, and one woman even got up and left the courtroom.

Jamesine Fischer was sentenced to 25 months in prison, just four more than the minimum, Wednesday over the hit-and-run death of Francoise Pécqueur. The 76-year-old Palm Coast resident died in November 2011 after Fischer struck her with her PT Cruiser on Columbia Lane.

MEDIA COURTHOUSE — A forensic examiner with the FBI said he was able to place a cellphone belonging to Maurquis Javon Thompson near the scene of a fatal 2011 hit-and-run minutes before the accident occurred.

Thompson, 21, of Chester, is on trial this week for the deaths of Academy Park High School freshmen Michael Taylor and Mark McNeill, who were struck at the intersection of Chester Pike and Glenolden Avenue in Glenolden at about 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 9, 2011. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene and McNeil died the following day at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

The 1995 Chevrolet Lumina involved in the collision and belonging to Thompson’s girlfriend, Angela Potter, was found a few blocks from the scene. Thompson was arrested near the abandoned car.
