In late October, the elderly husband and wife owners of a local shoe repair business were struck at the intersection of North Wood and East Elizabeth avenues by an SUV driven by an Edison man who was talking on his cellphone. The husband, who suffered a head injury, later died.
For Councilman Peter A. Brown Jr., that accident was further proof of the need for a traffic study in the heavily congested intersection, which borders retail shops, a six-story condominium building and parking access for the Linden (NJ) Train Station.
“Cars race from East Elizabeth Avenue to make a left onto Wood Avenue,” Brown said. “They almost collide turning left from East Elizabeth (Avenue). There are a lot of aggressive drivers.”

To the LaGrange couple who took the time to stop, comfort, be witnesses for and stay with our son until the police arrived, a great big thank you from the bottom of this grateful mother’s heart. To the officer that was so helpful, thank you for your service to our city.
To the driver of the hit and run vehicle, shame on you! How do you know someone wasn’t seriously injured and yet you just drive off? What, no license or no insurance? Drunk? Texting? If you have any conscience you will turn yourself in.

The two unidentified men were driving a 2000 Cadillac DeVille west on Route 88, near Ocean County Park, when the car rear-ended a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by township resident Deborah Hofmann, Patrolman David Silberstein said. The police believe the men were drunk at the time and were not authorized to have the car; it was not considered stolen because the men had access to the keys, Silberstein said.
The car’s owner, Silberstein said, “didn’t even know the car was gone until she was told by police.”

An enraged suspect fought through a Taser shot and then punched a San Jose police officer in the face, breaking his nose, before finally being arrested on Christmas morning, authorities said.
Paul Pierce, 69, faces felony charges of battery on an officer, resisting arrest and hit-and-run after he was unwilling to go quietly when officers confronted him east of downtown, police said.
Police were investigating a Sunday morning fender bender in which the suspect sped off. They tracked the suspect, Pierce, to a house on 24th and San Fernando streets around 10:25 a.m., police said.
When officers showed up, they discovered Pierce had a $50,000 warrant for his arrest.
“The suspect basically said, ‘No, you’re not arresting me,’ he basically took on the officers,” said Sgt. Jason Dwyer, a police spokesman.

BOSTON — A Roslindale man who pleaded guilty Tuesday in connection with the death of a 23-year-old scooter rider left the scene of the crash and went on his honeymoon as police were looking for him, prosecutors said.
Andrew Prior, a Syracuse, N.Y., man attending school in Boston, was struck as he was riding his scooter by Colin Ratiu, 23, on Nov. 14, 2010.
Prosecutors said that Ratiu left the scene of the crash and later got married and went on his honeymoon as police were searching for the driver of the fatal hit-and-run.
Daily prison-rape isn’t enough punishment for the likes of Colin Ratiu. If she knew, his whore wife is just as bad a human.
